Final post: Perception of Green

Due: Sunday evening at 7:00 p.m.
Here is a link to Klocek-Lim's poem "How to Perceive Red": http://3quarksdaily.blogs.com/3quarksdaily/2007/12/how-to-perceive.html

Take one stanza and imitate as exactly as possible in terms of its sentence and image structure but put in your own words and images; your assignment, however, is How to Perceive Green. Please tell me which stanza you are imitating. When you finish, briefly describe what you got out of doing this. Thank you.

  1. There it sits, the dull force of gloominess
how the trees lost identity under the leaves
and fell off to the ground one by one
because of the brisk air taking over.
    Your rosy cheeks darkening
the air chilly, with your breaths deepening
shorts was not a good idea.
    The goosebumps rise.

I did the 3rd stanza. What I got out of doing this post was using my own imagination to make new images. I liked having a guideline to follow the other stanza, it was easier to make a comparison.

  3. Do you remember?
If so, what do you see?
Do you remember the lime green blanket that kept you warm each night?
Or do you remember the roaring lawn mower that cut the green grass that summer morning?
Comfort the owner of the hunter green jeep that crashed and burned that summer night but saved lives.
Help the victims up from the cement with pieces of the green car surrounding them and lay them to rest.

I chose the first stanza from the poem and what I got out of this assignment was the freedom we got while writing the stanza over again. Although, we had to imitate almost the exact lines from the poem, I liked how I was able to create my own lines and images.

  4. Remember the nature in spring,
As the blades of grass protrude from the velvet earth,
And the ferns in the distance grow like a forest
Watch the elegant grasshopper camouflaged as he lingers in the yard,
Hiding under the shamrock colored streamers,
From the party down the street,
    As they float aimlessly by.
    Imagine the idea of envy,
Being torn between two things, jealously taking over
In one’s past, how green is the color of spring and Christmas.

i used the last stanza of the poem. From this assignment i was able to create my own perceptions of color and images to go along with it as well.

  6. Are you able to embrace the envy in which they see you that deeper shade of their hate. The way in which it rises from the deepest parts of the dead earth in just in time for the relief of Spring tulips. How wonderful the smell reaches over the mroning dew when it is begin cut but soon after grows a little more. But hunter green is that favorite color you hold on to on a winters day.

I used the second stanza. From this assignment i was able to give life to a color. I never tried it before and it was a interesting to try and translate feelings and words to describe a color.
